Who do you say Jesus is, and who is he to you? What you know about Jesus is crucial because even demons know who Jesus is. The following verses testify to that.
Matt.8:29a “What have we to do with You, Jesus, You Son of God? Have you come here to torture us before the time”?
Mark 1:24 “Let us alone! What have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Did you come to destroy us? I know who you are- the Holy One of God”!
If you read further you will see how Jesus rebuked the demons and cast them out of those people.
And in James 2:19 it says,
“You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even demons believe- and tremble”!
From the foregoing verses, we can see that the demons know that Jesus is:
- the Son of God
- the Holy One of God
By implication the demons know the power of Jesus over them, and that their days are numbered.
So it is not enough to believe that Jesus is powerful as a Christian, the devil also knows.
What it means to know Jesus
Now consider this, and understand what I mean by what it means to know Jesus as recorded in Matt.16:13-19.
One day Jesus asked his disciples,
“Who do men say that I the Son of Man am?”
They answered him saying,
“some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets”.
Then he asked them,
“But who do you say that I am?”
Simon Peter answered,
“You are the Christ, the Son of the living God”.
And Jesus said to him,
“Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for it was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock, I will build my Church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven”.
Note the different answers about Jesus by some Jews and Simon Peter. While the Jews answer came from their heads, Simon Peter’s own was revealed to him by God. Peter said that Jesus is the Christ; a confession that was beyond head knowledge.
How you got to know Jesus is vital. Having head knowledge about Jesus would not take you to the level that you can enjoy abundant life in him. You need a revelation of who Jesus is; that determines how you trust and obey him.
Has the person of Jesus been revealed to you?
Now, this is the crux of the matter: to what level do you know Jesus? The demons said he is the Son and Holy one of God, the Jews said he is John the Baptist, Elijah, Jeremiah or another prophet. But Peter said he is the Christ. Which of these answers do you identify with? Note that Jesus was not moved by other answers except that of Peter, and he said it was a revelation from God.
Have you received a revelation about Jesus? Do you know him as the Christ? I mean like the one who has the power to deliver and to save? Remember what he told Peter, that he will build his Church on Peter, the rock, the kingdom of hell cannot prevail against it. And that he will give Peter the keys to the kingdom of heaven to bind and to loose.
I believe Jesus meant that the confession of Peter was the foundation of his Church because he is her Saviour. And the Church is the body of believers including you and me. It means the promise belongs to every believer of Jesus. The gates of hell cannot prevail against his Church, and the Church has the keys of the kingdom of heaven to bind and to loose. Halleluyah!
Now if that is the position of the Church, is there anything that can stand against her? It means as a body of Christ we are supposed to enjoy abundant life because we have everything to fight the devil at our disposal.
Unfortunately, that is not always the case with many of us. Why? They take their relationship with Jesus casually and treat his promises as mere stories.
So, if you really want to enjoy the abundance of life in Jesus Christ, then you must get to know him more closely. You must create quality time with him, and trust his promises even if there appear unrealizable. The scripture says,
“For no matter how many promises God has made, they are yes in Christ”. 2 Cor.1:20a
The weapon of our warfare are not carnal
The scripture in 2Cor.10:4-5 says,
“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ”.
Whatever your problem may be, you can overcome it if you are well established in Christ. Mere head knowledge of Christ leaves you powerless, and you can’t experience a happy and fruitful life when you are powerless.
I remember those days when I had not gotten the revelation of who Christ is; I hardly trusted the promises of God. I thought there were meant for the apostles and the early believers, or some powerful men of God. Though a Christian, I was powerless and frustrated. When I could not stand that kind of life, I decided to seek Jesus in earnest, and God revealed him to me. Since I had that encounter with him my life has never been the same.
You can also do the same if you really want to be happy and enjoy a fruitful life. It does not matter what you may be experiencing right now, Jesus will grant you victory over it. Not that you would no longer face life challenges but they can’t intimidate you. Your faith in Christ will give you the grace to remain resolute in every situation. When the devil discovers that he can’t have his way through, he must bow.
Remaining in Jesus is key to a happy life
Note that the devil does not give up completely. When he bows to you one time he will go and develop another strategy and lunch a new attack. So you must remain in Christ and have a continuous relationship with him. And that can only be possible by having a good time always with him. Jesus said,
“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in him, bears much fruit for without Me you can do nothing”. John 15:5
“These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full”. John 15:11
You have no reason to live a frustrating life as a Christian woman; Jesus has taken care of that for you.
