Here is one common thing we are all searching for; it does not matter our sex, age, and social status. Nor does it depend on our locations or race either. That thing is happiness. I am sure you would agree with me that all our effort in life is to make ourselves happy. But most of the things we pursue only make us happy for a while; after which we begin to long for more or other things entirely. And that is how the circle continues; leaving us dissatisfied.
Do you know what? I just discovered the key to happiness after a long search. Perhaps you have not grasped it, and you are still searching. If that is you, then this piece is for you. I wrote it specifically for you because God has you in mind, and he wants you to live a happy and productive life. No matter the issues of life you may be facing God is saying he is with you and will continue to be with you. Here is what the One who created you is saying to you at this moment,
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are mine.
When you pass through the waters I will be with you. And through the rivers,
they shall not overflow over you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned,
And the flame shall not scorch you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your saviour” Isa.43:1-2
God knows full well the kind of waters you may be passing through or the fire you may be walking through, and so he says, FEAR NOT. Though the waters may rage and the flames of the fire hit you shall not be hurt because the one who controls the universe is right there with you. He wants you to be happy, and enjoy abundant life in him because you are special to him.
This is how the devil works against our happiness
But the devil does not want us to enjoy that abundant life and does all he can to keep us away from it. He terrorises us, shoots his arrows at us, and infects us with different diseases, and everything he can to sap out our joy. He roams through the earth monitoring us, taking advantage of every opportunity he gets.
The problem is we cannot see him while he is doing all those things to us. He comes to us in different forms. Sometimes he comes through our loved ones and hurts us; some other times he disguises himself as an angel of light and comes to us as a friend.
And what happens? He blinds our minds and deceives us, and makes us hate one another for his acts. He makes us believe that God is not interested in every detail of our lives. And we think God is far away from us; leaving us alone to struggle on our own. Then we end up frustrated and discouraged.
God is very close to us, and he cares
Today, God is saying enough of that; he wants you to be happy and enjoy life as he designed it. He says you are very special to him, and every detail of your life matters to him. He cares for you to the extent that he knows when a strand of your hair breaks and falls. And he watches over your life day and night.
I can say it again and again that God loves you so much. That love made him gave his only begotten Son to die for you. His Son, Jesus left his glory in heaven and came into the world and died a shameful death just for you. Jesus took all your sins, diseases, cares, and worries and nailed them on the cross.
In regard to that, this is what the scripture says,
“When you were dead in your sins, in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having cancelled the charge of our legal indebtedness which stood against us, and condemned us; he has taken it away nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross”. Clo.2:13-15
Mark the ALL. Not some but all our sins. It is sin that brought pain and sorrow. Since God has forgiven us all our sins everything that came along with it has been dealt with as well. The sinful nature we inherited from Adam no longer has mastery over us. Now we stand forgiven and justified before God, and liberated from all powers and authorities.
We live in a corrupt world
But as much as we have that assurance; God did not promise us a problem-free world. As long as we live in this world we are susceptible to issues, problems and challenges of life. How we respond to these challenges makes the difference. That is why it is not surprising to see some Christians enjoying happy and fruitful lives while others are frustrated. It is true that we all have salvation, but not all of us are happy.
Now, this is the reason it does happen that way. It all depends on our relationship with the Son of God; Jesus Christ. The fact that Jesus paid for all our sins, and everything that came along with them does not mean that our happiness is automatic. How we relate to him matters a lot.
We must make time to know who Jesus is, and who we are in him. As Christians we believe that he is our saviour; perfect; after that what? There are many ways you can know somebody. You may know someone by name, location, profession, and even share some things in common; but that does not mean you know him enough. So, for us to enjoy abundant life in Christ we must make time to know him.
I am sure you are determined to enjoy that happy and fruitful life that is why you are still reading this piece. What I am about to say may offend you, but if you are patient and continue reading you would be happy you did. You need to free your mind and take the word of God as it is without any prejudice. I also did likewise that is why I am where I am today.
What determines your happiness depends on this:
- You must know who Jesus is and who he is to you.
- You must know who you are and who Jesus means to you.
