What is your goal in life? What do you intend to accomplish in your lifetime as a woman? How valuable and impactful is that thing to you and your family in this life and the life after?
As for me, whenever I begin to think of acquiring the best things this world has to offer—things that bring pleasure—a question always pops up in my mind: “After you acquire them and derive the pleasure you want what next?”
Then I tell myself, “I will grow older, and those things will no longer appeal to me. Not only that, I will eventually leave this world. So, what will my next life be like? What legacy will I leave for my children?” It is that reality that often guides me in pursuing my life goal.
Yes, we all want to enjoy the comforts and pleasures of this world. But is that all there is to life? The irony is, even when we have all we think we need to feel comfortable, the fear of the unknown often robs us of joy.
Sickness, insecurity, and death threaten us daily. No matter how hard we try to create a sense of safety, the news reminds us of epidemics, terrorist attacks, innocent lives lost to gunmen, and many other heartbreaking events. Suddenly, we’re gripped with fear—and the things we once chased no longer bring the pleasure we hoped for.
Jesus didn’t hide these realities from us. He said, “In this world, you will have tribulations,” but He also assured us of His victory over the world (John 16:33).
Why do we face these tribulations? Because the one who currently rules this world is the devil (John 12:31; 14:30; 2 Corinthians 4:4). His works are evil, and they fill our world with terror.
But Jesus promised that He has gone to His Father’s house to prepare a place for us, and He will come again to take us to be with Him (John 14:2). That place is called heaven—where there will be no more sickness, death, mourning, crying, or pain (Revelation 21:4).
For this reason, my goal goes beyond this life. I want to be with Jesus in the place He has prepared for those who trust in Him. I want to dwell where there is no pain, death, or sorrow—only endless joy. I don’t want any member of my family to be missing from that place, because anyone who isn’t there will spend eternity in a place of torment.
That’s why I’m determined to walk closely with Jesus—to be empowered to stand strong in the face of adversity. I also want to be a godly example to my children.
It’s not that I dislike or avoid the things that bring comfort in this life—but I would rather stay closer to Jesus than be consumed by things that add no eternal value to me or my family.
After all, with Jesus, I have everything I need to live a fulfilling life here on earth—and much more in the life to come. Being close to Him is a double blessing.
So, I ask again: What are you investing your life in? Is it adding eternal value to you and your family?
Remember, drawing closer to Jesus doesn’t make you lose anything. Instead, you gain much more—a better life that positively impacts your family and the assurance of spending eternity with Jesus.
Your worth is too great to be tossed about by the cares and worries of this life. Rise up, make your walk with Jesus your top priority, and He will adorn you with the beauty that is precious in God’s sight and impactful in your family.
